Honors College Students Take Center Stage at College Discussion Panel

On Monday, March 25, students at Stephen and Harriet Myers Middle School attended an informative and engaging college discussion panel in their school auditorium. Panelists included current undergraduate students, graduate students, and recent graduates. Representing Hudson Valley Community College and the Honors College were Kamellia Barrett, an English major, and John Quackenbush, an Engineering Science major. Also on the panel were students from Union College, University at Albany, Howard University, Hampton University and Ithaca College. The sessions were very interactive, with the inquisitive middle school students asking thoughtful questions about the college experience. Panelists were asked to share what they found exciting and challenging about college, what a typical college day looks like, why they chose their major and whether their expectations of what college would be like turned out to be true. The panelists’ honesty, insight and encouragement most definitely made an impact on the students. A special thank you to Kamellia and John for being such positive role models and for representing HVCC in an exceptionally professional manor!
